Hello past, present, and future UCSD Dancers!
My name is Jerith Montano. I am currently a third year majoring in Electrical Engineering at UCSD and have had the pleasure of dancing for 4 esteemed on-campus teams since the beginning of my freshman year. I have danced for UCSD's KASA Dance-Off (2012-2013), [N]Motion, Division XII, and Ascension.

Through student organizations, campus sponsored teams, and friends looking to have fun the University of California has developed a community of learners, artists, and dancers of the highest quality. This site is dedicated to that amazing dance community.
Here I hope to share with you my knowledge of student-run organizations and teams which I hope you find interesting and consider joining.
I know what you are thinking: "But, I've never danced before," "I am a horrible dancer," or "I don't know how to dance!" (am I catching your drift?). I am here to tell you that no matter the team you join, they will teach you everything you need to know and more!
I have seen it happen so often, and have experienced it myself. You start off barely able to keep up, let alone remember choreography. You begin to question if dancing is even for you (a question to be taken seriously). I won't sugar coat it: dancing takes alot of time and effort. But the families you develop, the memories you make, and the satisfaction that you did something you - most likely - will never get the chance to experience again make the costs seem only minimal.
Majoring in the impacted Electrical Engineering program, I can tell you that school will be hard regardless of how much "extra" time you have to spend "studying." I can tell you that math, physics, chemistry, sociology, engineering, or what ever subject you take will take alot of your focus and energy. I can also tell you that without dance...I would not have been able to persevere and continue pursuing my dreams.
Dancers range from Engineers to Poets, from Scientists to Businessmen, and everything in-between. And this community that we have made connects each and every one of us, creating a wide network of general people. Joining a dance team, means that you join the community - it means that you have found friends and family AND have expanded your personal network.
I can only provide you with mysticisms and enticements, but it's up to you to come out to one of the many, many workshops/practices/try-outs that this community offers almost weekly. I urge you to try something you probably have never done before! You do not necessarily need to join a team, but maybe go to a workshop or practice and see what I am fussing about. I and many others truly LOVE this community - and I hope you find out why.
